Purdue basketball 2021 recruiting: Carmel’s Brian Waddell commits

WEST LAFAYETTE – Purdue added another piece to its 2021 recruiting class Wednesday when Carmel’s Brian Waddell announced his commitment to coach Matt Painter’s program.

Waddell, who helped the Greyhounds win the Class 4A state championship, will redshirt this upcoming season and have four years of eligibility starting in 2022-23. Waddell committed to the Boilermakers on Sunday night.

The 6-foot-7 Waddell was recently named to the Indiana All-Star team and joins future Purdue teammates Caleb Furst and Trey Kaufman-Renn on the squad. Furst was selected Indiana’s Mr. Basketball.

Furst (Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian) and Kaufman-Renn (Silver Creek) also led their teams to state championships in March.

Waddell averaged 15.8 points and 6.4 rebounds as a senior.

Following in his dad’s footsteps has crossed Waddell’s mind since Purdue started showing interest more than a year ago.
