FORT SMITH — Trey Prieur returns just four regulars from last year’s AAA American Legion baseball state champion Fort Smith Sportsman, but he’s got an ace in the hole.

Pitcher Connor Johnson, who helped Van Buren to a Class 5A state title, will join the Sportsman this summer.

Johnson, a Central Arkansas signee, went 13-0 on the mound for the Pointers and should help anchor the pitching staff.

Academy Sports and Outdoors Inc., spurred by consumer spending shifts, government stimulus and its expansive assortment across sports and outdoor categories, turned profitable in the first quarter of 2021 off a sales increase of 39.1 percent and raised its outlook for this year.
