Kansas Jayhawks basketball lands Drake transfer Joseph Yesufu

LAWRENCE — A breakout star from the NCAA Tournament is headed to Kansas.

Joseph Yesufu, who averaged 23.5 points for Drake in the Bulldogs’ two March Madness tilts, announced his intention to transfer to the Jayhawk men’s basketball program in a Wednesday afternoon social media post. A 6-foot, 180-pound sophomore guard, Yesufu will have three years of collegiate eligibility remaining.

“Can’t wait to be part of this special program so we can make the fans proud,” tweeted Yesufu, who added: “Go Jayhawks!”

A former unranked recruit out of Bolingbrook, Ill., Yesufu burst onto the national stage late in the 2020-21 campaign.

Yesufu scored 21 points in Drake’s 53-52 victory over Wichita State in the First Four and contributed 26 points with six made 3s in his team’s season-ending 72-56 defeat to USC. Across his final nine games with the Bulldogs, Yesufu averaged 23.2 points while shooting 46.9% from 3-point range and 84.8% from the free-throw line.
