Joe Burrow gains extra protection in latest CBS Sports mock draft
If there’s anything we learned about the Cincinnati Bengals last season, it’s that Joe Burrow is the team’s sure quarterback of the future and that he needs to be better protected in the pocket.
Burrow gets some additional protection the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, according to CBS Sports’ latest mock draft.
The network’s Emory Hunt projects the Bengals will select offensive lineman Christian Darrisaw out of Virginia Tech with the fifth pick in the first round. Here’s what he had to say about the 6-foot-5-inch, 314-pounder.
“I believe Darrisaw is the best tackle in the draft class, and he would almost immediately help strengthen the Bengals offensive line in front of Joe Burrow,” he wrote.
The offensive line saw some improvement as the season went on, but the bar was set low.
Burrow was sacked a total of 32 times in 2020, and that number looks even worse when we consider the fact his season ended prematurely when he suffered a severe knee injury against the Washington Football Team in November.
By the fourth game of the season, Burrow was on pace to be sacked some 75 times, with opposing defenses recording 14 sacks on the quarterback through just three games.
It will be interesting to see the moves the Bengals continue to make come April.
