Here is the latest SEC sports news from The Associated Press | Ap-sports

UNDATED (AP) — The precarious situation on the NCAA Tournament bubble could be what decides whether the deep Big Ten or the brutal Big 12 get the most teams into the 68-team field come Selection Sunday. Both of the leagues have seven teams that are assured a spot in the field, and that means Big Ten bubble teams Michigan State and Maryland could be the tiebreakers. Both need to hope bid-stealers such as Georgetown and Cincinnati lose this weekend.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Jahvon Quinerly scored 14 points off the bench, Jaden Shackelford added 13 points and No. 6 Alabama blew out Mississippi State 85-48 in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals. The top-seeded Crimson Tide will face fourth-seeded Tennessee in the semifinals. Playing as the tournament’s team to beat for the first time since 2002, the Crimson Tide followed a couple of small early runs before going on a 17-0 surge over nearly five minutes for an eventual 43-13 cushion just before halftime. Iverson Molinar scored 18 points to lead Mississippi State.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Reserve JD Notae scored a season-high 27 points and No. 8 Arkansas overcame a 10-point deficit to beat Missouri 70-64 on Friday night to advance to the Southeastern Conference Tournament semifinals. The Razorbacks won their 12th straight SEC game. The second-seeded Razorbacks will play LSU in the semifinals Saturday, their fourth such berth since 2015. Justin Smith scored 16 points before fouling out for Arkansas, and Davonte Davis added 11. Xavier Pinson led Missouri with 14 points.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Santiago Vescovi scored 14 points to lead five Volunteers in double figures, and Tennessee beat Florida 78-66 Friday to advance to the Southeastern Conference semifinals for a third straight tournament. The Volunteers won their second straight over Florida in the span of six days. The first gave the Vols a bye to the SEC quarterfinals, and this time they never trailed advancing to semifinal against sixth-ranked Alabama. Florida lost for the second time in three games. Tre Mann finished with a career-high 30 points for the Gators after having only two points in the first half.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Trendon Watford scored 24 points, including a key tip with 23 seconds remaining, Cameron Thomas added two late free throws for 18 points and No. 3 seed LSU held off No. 6 Mississippi 76-73 in the final SEC Tournament quarterfinal. The Tigers face second-seeded and No. 8-ranked Arkansas in the semifinal. LSU led 69-63 before the Rebels rallied within a point on Devontae Shuler’s 3-pointer with 1:17 remaining. Darius Days answered with a big 3, followed by Watford’s basket to make it 74-68, which proved critical when Ole Miss’ Jarkel Joiner (26 points) hit a 3. Joiner then fouled Cameron Thomas, who made both free throws to seal the victory.

UNDATED (AP) — The NCAA Football Rules Committee is recommending a slight change to overtime rules. It would require a team to try a two-point conversion after a touchdown when a game reaches the second overtime instead of the third. The committee also addressed the problem of teams faking injuries to slow the opponent’s momentum and blocking below the waist. Changes must be approved by the NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel next month. The overtime recommendation was based on player safety and intended to reduce the number of plays it takes to win a game.
