Giant swimming quarry in La Grange will open next month

With snow on the ground, it seems like a good time to let everyone know that swimming is right around the corner.The quarry in Oldham County, FRP, is opening on May 8.If you’ve never been, here’s the gist. There’s a quarry in La Grange made of rock and filled with water. There, you can swim, float or dive. Park officials deemed it too deep for swimming, so everyone is required to have a float of some sort. Those who come unprepared can buy a float or noodle at the entrance.But leave the kids at home. This is an adults-only spot. But that doesn’t mean you can have alcohol — that is strictly prohibited as well and they will check your vehicle.The water is maintained solely by rain, so no ground runoff dumps into the quarry. That means the water is clear, clean and natural, according to the park.A change this year made for COVID-19 is all tickets must be purchased online ahead of time, so no drive-up or cash admission is allowed.
