4 transfers Spartans should target in portal
Thomas Kithier hit the transfer portal on Tuesday morning, joining Rocket Watts as the other Michigan State basketball player to call it a career in East Lansing early while looking for a new home.
The Spartans are now down Josh Langford, Watts, Kithier, Aaron Henry, and Jack Hoiberg from last year’s team which means that next season’s Michigan State squad is going to look very different.
Michigan State is expected to use the extra scholarship it picked up from Kithier’s transfer on the portal instead of waiting on Emoni Bates to make a decision. But we can all be sure that if Bates does want to come to Michigan State next season, Tom Izzo and Co. will make room for him. That whole situation seems to be up in the air still.
With Izzo likely looking at the transfer portal again for a wing or maybe even a two-guard as the No. 1 priorities, he could also afford to add one more depth piece at power forward or center.
The Spartans should be deep at point guard next season with Tyson Walker, Jaden Akins, AJ Hoggard, and potentially Foster Loyer, so that won’t be an area of need as it’s been addressed. The wing will be important with Watts, Henry, and Langford will be gone but a lot of the big names are already off the market.
Lastly, the post could use another piece after losing Kithier but it’s not exactly a top priority but more of a desire for fans.
Here’s who Michigan State should be keeping an eye on in the portal this offseason.
